League Ladies Brave the Elements and Keep on Shooting

Although we, along the Texas Gulf Coast, don’t have to worry about cold weather and snow very often, we do get the occasional severe thunderstorm that blows through, and yesterday at the range was no exception.  The storm blew in during our regular ladies league shooting session, but it did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the women, who just kept right on shooting.

I gave everyone the option of packing it in when the rain started, but no one took me up on the offer!  For two and a half hours, whether the rain was light or heavy, these ladies stood their ground and continued to work toward their goals.

We’ve been working on the NRA Marksmanship Pistol Qualifications, and almost everyone advanced at least one level yesterday, regardless of weather conditions that would have driven most people inside.

Comments I heard were, “It’s really fun to shoot in the rain!” and “I want to get this level finished.  I don’t care about the rain!”  I told them all that they can add that to their bucket list and then check it off 🙂

And while we did look like a motley crew (or maybe drowned rats), I am very proud of the ladies; they definitely earned their shooting stripes yesterday!

Also, many thanks to our “shooting dudes,” the men who always stand by us and support us, come rain or shine.  We appreciate you.

Now, back to the range; and to borrow (and mangle) the postal creed:  Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night [will] stay [us] from the swift completion of [our] appointed [mission]…to punch holes in paper – and become the best darn shooters we can be 🙂

Flowers From Friends

Below are a few photos that friends have taken of spring flowers just recently.  All of them make me happy, and as I’ve said before, “Flowers are the Great Physician’s happy pills.”  Enjoy!

These photos of spring wildflowers were taken by Seresa Hunter Crowson on a recently family camping trip to the Texas hill country.  Note the beautiful butterfly in the second photo.

This one was taken by Holly Cate of Holly Cate Photography, a young woman with an amazing eye for stunning photographs.  You can see more of her photos, and purchase them, by going to the link above.

This crocus photo was graciously shared by Western Rose, another young woman with an eye for beauty, and sister to Holly Cate.  You can see that photographic talent definitely runs in the family – as does rifle shooting 🙂  You can find more photos at The Little Adventures of Western Rose, or read more about her by CLICKING HERE.

Thank you, Ladies, for sharing these beautiful photos of creation with us!

Happy Birthday, Texas!

Today is the 175th birthday of my adopted home state, Texas, and as the saying goes, “I wasn’t born here, but I got here as fast as I could.” Although I was born in Alabama and have lived in several southern states, I’ve been in Texas for close to 30 years and have raised all my children here.

One of my good friends, Seresa, recently posted the following on her facebook page, and I think it sums up the feelings of all who call themselves Texans:

“I love Texas! Really…beyond the incredible special breed that is a Texan, the state itself is amazing. If you want desert and cactus, we’ve got it. If you want mountains and some snow, just head west or to the panhandle. We have the coast with beaches and palm trees. We have the piney woods of east Texas…beautifully green!

The hill country in central Texas is gorgeous with the hills, rocks, and clear water rivers. Lakes, rivers, springs, caverns…It doesn’t get better than this. International cultures of all varieties can be found, but true Texas culture will be found in them all here. It’s a good thing more people don’t travel the state the way we do…they wouldn’t want to leave and it might get a little crowded (though I heard recently that the entire population of the world could all fit in the borders of Texas in single family homes of 3-4 people! WOW!)”

I hope everyone loves their home state the way those of us in Texas do. Here’s a link to a short CBS News story on Texas Independence Day. So celebrate Texas today – have some BBQ, Tex-Mex, or at least raise a toast to the Great State of Texas with a really good Margarita!

Another Liebster Honor!

I just found out today that I’ve been honored to receive my second Liebster award!  Thank you so much to That Texas Lady, who has an awesome blog that you need to check out – if you haven’t done so already.  Word has it she is considering a Top Shot run at some point in the future, and for that she has my complete blessing, undying devotion, and greatest encouragement :0)

The meaning of the German word, “liebster,” is “beloved person, liked very much, preferred above others, liked or loved above others.”  And while I know that none of us could pick just our very favorite top few blogs for this award, many of which are new to us, it’s nice to know that someone likes us enough to share us with their world.

Liebster Award rules:

1. Copy and paste the award on our blog.

2. Link back to the blogger who gave us the award

3. Pick our five favorite blogs with less than 200 followers, and leave a comment on their blog to let them know they have received the award.

4. Hope that the five blogs chosen will keep spreading the love and pass it on to five more blogs.

I have listed five of my favorites in the first Liebster post, but will add five more now, which include, but are not limited to:

1.  That Texas Lady – Yes, I am sending the love right back :0)  Truth is, I’ve been enjoying her blog for a while now.

2.  Female and Armed – Lynne is an awesome new friend who knows how to share the love.

3.  The Gun Blog Black List – The one that promotes so many of us, and from whom I have received many visitors.

4.  Gravy and Biscuits – A great blogger, who reminds me of my need to prep.

5.  A Girl and Her Gun – A new blog to me, and one that I’m really enjoying catching up on – although I’m way behind the curve on this one, because she comes HIGHLY recommended by pretty much everyone else in the blogosphere 🙂

So is there someone in your life that you need to share some love with?  Well, go ahead; after all, this is February, the month of liebster – I mean, love :0)

Happy Shooting!
